This month I've been a bit obsessed with blue eye shadows. I would say the majority of my clothes are some variation of blue - it's always been my favourite colour overall. Blue seems to suit my skin tone fairly well as I've been told by a few people in clothing stores. This summer I've been enjoying wearing bright royale blues, sometimes layering with a darker blue and contrasting it with some other shade like bright orange nails or pinks. However, this is not a fashion blog post...
You might remember if you follow my blog, in the beginning of February I went to the Guerlain counter for a little birthday haul (I was mainly after the LE 'Cruel Gardenia' highlighter). At the time I was wearing my blue outfit and immediately the SA was inspired and picked out the types of blue shades that would form a contrast and bring out my brown eyes. This included royale blue and a darker blue. She noticed that the colours I was wearing really suited me and she said I should really do the same with my eyes. In her lovely Polish accent she says "if you want the colour of your eyes to stand out, you must choose shades that are completely the opposite colour". Then, she recommended a couple of really beautiful blue eye shadows that I fell in love with. I have bought blue eye shadows in the past including from Chanel and my preferred Burberry Eye Shadow in 'Midnight Blue'. However, it is during the past month since the little Guerlain counter visit that I've really been obsessed with blue eye shadows!
I should do a review of the two eye shadow palettes from Guerlain that contained the colours she recommended for me - or those with brown eyes. Hopefully, soon!
La Long Story of My Obsession Avec Le Bleu is Now Fin!!! ;)

Here's what the official Dior website has to say about their New Look Collection eye shadows:
" Drawing its inspiration from the seminal shades of the 1947 New Look collection, Dior has created 4 new harmonies from the legendary 5 Colour palette. Royal Kaki, Bleu de Paris, Rose Porcelaine and Grège reveal its depth, for a High in Colour metamorphosis. "

The palette comes with a mirror and two good quality double-ended sponge tip applicators. A thinner pointed tip sponge on one end for lining the eyes and more precision work and a larger rounded sponge tip on the other for dabbing on the product. Practical enough for travel and just in case for some reason you don't have your eye brushes on hand. (The product formulation is so easy to blend that you can get away with using the sponges if you're desperate (for any touch ups or simple eye look!). |

Although some of the shades look quite shimmery in the pan, they actually apply with a softer sheen, with the exception of the lightest (silver) shade in the top right of the palette, which is true to pan and applies just as shimmery/frosty on the eye lids as it looks in the pan. This makes it a much more wearable combination of shades for both day and evening.
Application Ideas
The palette is very versatile and offers 5 shades which you can use all at once (for an evening look for instance), otherwise you can easily achieve a number of different looks using much less than that in whatever combination of shades you like. For me personally, I've been mostly using the following combinations:
- For work wear, I usually use 3 of the shades - the middle pale blue shade as a light wash all over the lid, then the matte navy blue in the outer corners of my eyes and a little bit in the crease for depth and definition. I then use the top left light blue with the sheen just in the middle part of my eye lid as a highlight and added dimension. Finally, I use the navy blue again to line the eyes.
- For the evening, I apply the matte navy blue all over the lid and blend out the edges just above the crease (not too much otherwise it starts to look a bit dated). Using the dark charcoal grey, I layer it over the matte navy blue in the outer corners, and I use this to line my eyes (blending out with a little of the matte navy blue). I also add just a tiny bit of the silver in the inner corners of my eyes as a highlight.
Of course, you don't have to use this palette to achieve the same looks as I'm sure you can find similar shades in your current make up collection or other more affordable brands.
Overall
The things that I love about this palette are not only because of the beautiful combination of shades that can offer a range of different looks in one convenient packaging, but the soft, smooth, blendable texture, decent colour pay-off and it's lasting power on my lids. (Those with oily lids may still need to apply a primer).
I highly recommend you check the Dior New Look eye shadow palettes at your nearest counter!
Hope this was helpful.
