Hello ladies,
I haven't tried a new mascara in ages because I just love the Clinique High Impact Waterproof and the Lancome Hypnose Waterproof mascaras. A small downside is the price, but a good highstreet mascara is hard to find. I've tried many and gave up on them to switch to high end.
Yet, I missed a certain drugstore mascara from the past, the blue two step one from L'Oreal with the white serum. I could only find it online and wonder how old it must be then, since it got discontinued. I will not buy old discontinued makeup from some unknown online drugstore. So I was pleased to see that L'Oreal was selling something similar still, and with a black serum this time.
At 17 euros, it's still 5 euros cheaper than my regular waterproof Clinique mascara, but will it do the trick?
When I apply step 1, the black serum, I feel like I'm applying a relatively wet and thin formula. There's not much to see. Somehow the white serum felt more satisfying because I could see where it was until I covered everything. The problem was that the mascara would never look perfectly black.
I let the serum get a little tacky. Then I apply the actual mascara. L'Oreal promises 25x more length and volume than with any other mascara, but of course I had watched some reviews before buying and it looked like a regular old waterproof mascara. The formula stained a bit on my eyelid, but I had curled my lashes and they touch my skin then if I open my eyes wide. I must have not let the formula dry long enough.
The brushes felt nice, they did not touch my eyelids let alone hurt them.
The look was alright. The formulas went on pretty wet and smooth, and step 2 separated my lashes nicely, a bit too nice, I didn't feel any grip on my lashes at all. It felt like one of those cheaper, very wet non waterproof formulas that just poor of from 1 tear. But I do like a clump free look, with separated lashes. It just felt a bit light for me. I like a nice fat lash. Maybe I should have built it up once dry.
On the day that I wasn't wearing eye cream it lasted quite well, until at night when me and my boyfriend lol'ed a lot together, then I got some grey shadows underneath my eyes. I touched it up with some powder. Still, Clinique and Lancome survive this better, and feel more comfortable. The Lancome Hypnose Waterproof one barely even removes with a double phase remover, which is a bit too much of a good thing on a daily basis. That's why I love Clinique. On the day that I did wear some eye cream, the grey shadowing/staining was a bit worse, but it was still possible to hide it with some powder. That just doesn't feel too fresh.
Conclusion: a good mascara for day to day wear. Waterproof, but not oil proof, laughter proof, lol proof, and I wouldn't sleep in this (I only sleep with mascara in emergencies, when they are mega waterproof). The look is a bit light and in no way do you notice anything of "fibers" and "25x length and volume". The brushes are pretty soft though for a plastic mascara, so application is quite nice. Would I buy it again? I rarely ever buy mascara other than the ones I mentioned. I just wanted to see how double ended L'Oreal mascaras are these days. This mascara is too unreliable for me to use on occassions, but I will use it on regular days until I'm out of product. The price difference with Clinique is too low to not buy high end that is a lot longer lasting.
x
