2021 is currently lining up to be just as disappointing as 2020, except this year I am being subjected to a lockdown Birthday. Last year I was fortunate enough to miss the strike of Covid, people were talking about it but no one was that concerned at the time. A month after my Birthday, that all changed.
Looking back over the past year, it has been bit of a weird one; on the one hand it has definitely been the worst year I've had. With the restrictions, not being able to see my friends and really everything grinding to a holt, it hasn't been the best year for the work/life balance. However on other hand and the topic of work, I started a new job at the beginning of March last year. A year later, I am still enjoying it and it has completely changed my mental state. I definitely feel more positive and feel like I can achieve more which is exciting.
When lockdown began, I panicked. I was still in my probation and in my experience it has always been last in, first out but thankfully I was kept on and in August I passed my probation. Up until that point I was very cautious with my spending as if I lost my job I didn't know when I would get another one, the job market isn't exactly thriving right now. When I passed my probation I treated myself to the Missoma Necklace I had been eyeing up for months and 6 months later I still love it. That necklace was sort of my last treat before Christmas and since Christmas I haven't been in the mood to treat myself but now I am using my Birthday as an excuse and I have well and truly spoilt myself with a present from one of my favourite brands.
Wearing Lingerie
I am adamant that there is no better gift than the gift of confidence, whether someone is treating you to something or whether you are looking to treat yourself, buying something that makes you feel confident is so important. Confidence is something that I have always struggled with and I think it is something that at one point everyone has dealt with. I have a few things which help give me a boost when my confidence is feeling low and wearing lingerie is such a boost for me.
It is an extra step that feels like something you could do everyday but probably don't. I certainly try to wear nice underwear everyday but some days I just want a bralette and some granny knickers. However there are also the days that I want to feel sexy. It is very rare that I feel sexy, having always been described as cute or adorable my entire life (I am petite,) sexy is not a word commonly used to describe me but when I wear lingerie, I feel sexy and for me that is a boost. There are a couple of brands who I love to shop from:
Bluebella, Lounge Underwear but my ultimate favourite is
Agent Provocateur.
Agent Provocateur
Despite the fact that the devil, Mike Ashley, owns Agent Provocateur within his retail empire it doesn't seem to have changed the brand too much. Yes the brand is now available in House of Fraser however they stock the same styles every season and they tend to pick the cheaper styles. I do not think they pick the best of the brand but I guess that is just my personal opinion. The biggest shame about it being in House of Fraser is that you do not get the shopping experience from the brand that you would get in one of their stores or from one of their manned counters in Selfridges or Harrods. I shopped from Harrods a few years ago and it was such a lovely experience, I was treated so well and you do not get that in House of Fraser. I think it is an oversight in the brands marketing and actually diminishes the luxury of the brand.
I might not agree with the brand being in House of Fraser but it hasn't stopped me buying from the brand, I just do it on the
AP website. Wearing the lingerie honestly makes me feel like a different person. I feel bold and confident and it is all down to the styles and the exquisite construction of the bras. I have limited boobs, as in they are basically non-existent and I have always felt very self conscious about it but when I wear AP, it doesn't matter, I actually have boobs and I feel great about what I have. It doesn't even need to be seen by someone else, the important part is how it makes me feel. If I know I am wearing matching lingerie underneath my boring clothes I feel like I have a secret and it gives me a form of power. That is why I will quite often use my Birthday to treat myself to lingerie that I wouldn't wear everyday.
My Birthday Sets
It is always nice to have some lingerie tucked away for a rainy day, a day when you might not be feeling your best and that lingerie is going to make you feel your best. Agent Provocateur does that for me so for my Birthday I purchased two new sets. Of course they were both in the sale as I am not made of money and I waited until they had an additional 10% off so I tried to buy it when it was the cheapest it could be.
I bought a classic style from the brand and a rogue set that I didn't expect to love but it is amazing. The first set I actually have in a different colour and funnily enough I actually bought it for my Birthday a few years ago and it is the Lorna Set. Lorna is bit of an icon and a style that they launch every season in different colours. Also it was the bra that Beyonce wore when she did that iconic photoshoot to announce her second pregnancy.
Previously I purchased the Navy version from Harrods back in 2019 but this year I went for something a little bit more colourful. In the sale they had beautiful bright blue with red piping around the scallop detail. I love the rich red with the bold blue, I think it is beautiful and one of the better colour pairings within the Lorna line. The scallop detail is so feminine and pretty and it is really comfortable. Compared to some of the items you can buy from the brand £39 for the bra and £20 for the knickers seemed incredibly reasonable.
The second set I purchased did cost a little bit more and does have a few more details. The second set is called the Kaylie Set. I don't think this is the most sexy set but I love it and I love the details. It is completely sheer which does give that element of sexiness but it also has baby pink embroidered stars with silver details over the bra and thong. I bought the thong to go with this bra and I am so glad I did as it has the cutest ring detail at the back which I completely missed when I was looking online. The bra alone cost £55 which is basically the same price as the entire Lorna set but it is gorgeous and I am so happy that I treated myself to it.
There is something so luxury about the construction of Agent Provocateur bras and no matter the style you feel incredible when you wear them. There is no confidence boost quite like it. It is not a big Birthday this year but I still think it is important to treat myself. I am a firm believer that no one will treat you as good as you treat yourself which is why I always make sure to buy myself a Birthday and Christmas present, plus it is a good excuse to treat yourself!
