In the 29th week of 2020 for Wandering Through the Shelves' Thursday Movie Picks. We delve into the subject of male buddy movies as it’s about guys being bros and having a good time. Here are my three picks as they star the hilarious duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost: 1. Shaun of the Dead
Simon and Nick play a couple of slackers who likes to chill out, have a good time, go to a pub, and play video games. Yet, Simon is the one with the job and a girlfriend who thinks Nick is holding him back and she’s sort of right. Then comes a mysterious zombie apocalypse and all hell breaks loose as the two buds plus Simon’s girlfriend, his mum, and two other friends hide out at the pub where things don’t go great as even Simon’s friendship with Nick starts to unveil some flaws yet Simon and Nick remain loyal to each other as they do whatever they can to kill off zombies with whatever they have including some vinyl records. And yes, I too like Second Coming. 2. Paul
From Greg Mottola is a film that has Simon and Nick as two sci-fi writers going on a road trip to America where they meet an alien and all sorts of crazy shit occur. Here, both Simon and Nick play it straight and Seth Rogen as the titular alien is the comic relief. Still, Simon and Nick get to be funny while they’re later joined by Kristen Wiig and Blythe Danner for the fun while being pursued by Jason Bateman, Bill Hader, and Joe Lo Truglio as well as a surprise cameo from a legendary killer of aliens. 3. The World's End
